Mom and I at the reception in Saks Fifth Avenue for the Florence Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing
How many times in your life do you think you were assigned a “biggest role model” paper or essay? Throughout college, I was still writing papers and giving presentations about and inspired by my biggest influences. My mom, Virginia (Ginny) Summe, is the strongest and most selfless woman I have ever met, so you can imagine my relief when I was given one of these assignments. From working nights weekends to pay for mine and my three siblings’ private education to calling her from college, crying that I overdrew my bank account (again), I am always amazed knowing that there is someone in this world who will do anything for me. Now that her four children are (somewhat) grown up, my mom is focusing her efforts on not only her nursing career, but going beyond the requirements of a NICU nurse to try to improve the lives of others.
